Outdoor and semi-outdoor display racks live a hard life: rain, UV, salt air and constant handling. The finish you spec decides whether a rack still looks premium in year three.
Two proven options
Powder coating and galvanizing are the two finishes MLZ applies most for garden and outdoor programs. Both protect steel — but they behave differently.
Powder coating
- Electrostatic application, oven-cured for a uniform, color-matched film
- Unlimited brand colors, including matte and textured finishes
- Excellent UV and abrasion resistance for retail-facing surfaces
- Best when appearance and VI color are priorities
Galvanizing
- Zinc layer sacrificially protects against corrosion
- Outstanding in humid, coastal and semi-outdoor environments
- Typically paired with a top coat for color
- Best for structural frames in harsh conditions
The takeaway
For most garden displays we recommend galvanizing plus powder coating — corrosion protection underneath, brand color on top. It roughly doubles service life versus a painted rack.
